5 out of 5 love it

I have been using these for quite some time. These not only are made in ethical way but super soft as well which I love because of my sensitive gums. Will continue to get more.

Preserve Story

Since 1996, Preserve has made products that are good for both people and the planet. They transform yogurt cups into toothbrushes and take-out containers into tableware. Through innovations in sustainable materials, recycling systems, and performance-driven design, Preserve has created low-impact, stylish products to accompany you in your day-to-day life.

As a pioneer in sustainable products, they found their roots in creating everyday household products from 100% recycled plastic. To divert even more plastic from the landfills, they took it a step further and developed their own takeback program called Gimme 5, which collects #5 plastic that they transform into new Preserve products, ultimately closing the product lifecycle loop.

Dedicated to lowering society’s impact on the environment, Preserve continues to innovate with the complex and evolving needs of today’s world. To make low-impact products accessible to the most people in the most places, they have expanded into plant-based compostables, as well as products for the food services industry. Preserve can now be your go-to for products both in and out of the home, and for multi- or single-use occasions, fitting the needs of every lifestyle.

Plastics with a purpose

From their first days in 1996, they have chosen to focus on using recycled plastic to create our products. They choose recycled plastic in order to reduce dependence on virgin plastic, and to encourage recycling. Choosing recycled helps to lower the amount of plastic in landfills and on beaches and also saves water, energy and electricity. With their choice of materials, they support the recycling industry in the U.S., a $117 billion dollar industry which creates more than 750,000 jobs.

With all of their products, they use a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach to assess their impact. An LCA, looks at the journey of a product, and its impacts from the point of extraction of that products’ components from the earth, all the way through to the ultimate disposal of the product.

  • Preserve’s plastic products are made from 100% recycled plastics. Their minimalist packaging uses high percentages of recycled materials. This saves energy and preserves natural resources.
  • All Preserve plastic products are recyclable—either through our Gimme 5 mail-in and retail-based programs or via curbside programs in communities that recycle #5 plastic. This creates an incentive for customers and communities to recycle.
  • All Preserve products are made in the USA. This enables shipping efficiency throughout our supply chain, which uses less fuel and reduces the environmental footprint.
  • All Preserve products are developed and manufactured without testing on animals. Period.

They choose to use #5 plastic (polypropylene) as their source material since it is a versatile and benign plastic. Preserve obtains their recycled plastics from a network of trusted sourcing partners and they test each new source that we reprocess. Their providers range from several material reprocessors, other consumer products companies like Stonyfield, to retail and community partners that collect materials for the Preserve Gimme 5 program. As a result, the recycled plastic in their Preserve products represents pre-consumer recycled material or a mixture of pre- and post-consumer blends.

They identify the origins and intended use of all their plastics and work with their material suppliers to ensure that they know the first application of each material source. They follow FDA guidelines for use of post-consumer plastics in their products and all their sources of recycled plastic are tested for foreign elements, such as heavy metals, to ensure that there are no harmful chemicals migrating from the plastics that they use.

Polypropylene, #5 plastic, does not contain BPA in its base monomer, and they do not use any plastic additives that contain BPA. The BPA free nature of their plastic has been confirmed through lab tests.

Their products have also been tested for dishwasher and microwave durability.
