Empowering Refugees Through Employment With Workaround

Building any company is an uphill struggle. From long hours to technical ins-and-outs it can seem like an insurmountable job, especially if you don’t have a huge staff. We at The GreenLine have been so fortunate to partner with WorkAround, a revolutionary company, which provides online work solutions to displaced people otherwise unable to find employment.

Globally, we are facing some of the highest levels of human migration in history due to war and famine. Many refugees have difficulty in their host countries due to constraints on their ability to work and ability to provide for their families. [/vc_wp_text][vc_single_image image=”26044″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_wp_text]WorkAround does just as its name would imply and works around these issues to provide businesses like ours with crucial services like data entry, data scrubbing, tagging, training data, digitization, surveys, and internet research. These oh-so-crucial hours are filled by amazing displaced workers that WorkAround has collaborated with and trained in these fast-paced fields. They truly embody empowering refugees through employment.

Since its founding, WorkAround has provided over 5,000 hours of fair-wage work to over 450 refugees, and are working to scale up significantly to 2500 workers providing 40,000 work hours by 2019, 5000 workers and 100,000 hours in 2020. These 450 WorkArounders have directly impacted over 1,300 other displaced persons dependant on them for support. Founders Wafaa Arbash and Jennie Kelly have created a mobile-based workforce that can tackle almost any project while providing solutions to a global humanitarian crisis. Their work has garnered industry attention including winning the 2017 She Starts entrepreneurship competition, a finalist position in the 2017 MassChallenge Accelerator program and a top 12 placing in the Pope’s Laudito Si Challenge 2018.[/vc_wp_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaDIlMjBzdHlsZSUzRCUyMnRleHQtYWxpZ24lM0ElMjBjZW50ZXIlM0IlMjIlM0UlM0NzdHJvbmclM0VTdWJzY3JpYmUlMjB0byUyMG91ciUyMG5ld3NsZXR0ZXIlM0MlMkZzdHJvbmclM0UlM0MlMkZoMiUzRSUwQSUzQ3AlMjBzdHlsZSUzRCUyMnRleHQtYWxpZ24lM0ElMjBjZW50ZXIlM0IlMjIlM0VBbWF6aW5nJTIwZ2l2ZWF3YXlzJTJDJTIwaGVhbHRoeSUyMGxpdmluZyUyMGlkZWFzJTIwYW5kJTIwYmV0dGVyJTIwYnJhbmRzLiUzQyUyRnAlM0UlMEElM0NwJTIwc3R5bGUlM0QlMjJ0ZXh0LWFsaWduJTNBJTIwY2VudGVyJTNCJTIyJTNFJTVCeWlrZXMtbWFpbGNoaW1wJTIwZm9ybSUzRCUyMjElMjIlNUQlM0MlMkZwJTNF[/vc_raw_html][vc_single_image image=”26008″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_wp_text]The much-needed man-hours have been invaluable for our team and we’ve loved working with WorkAround. Since beginning outsourcing, WorkArounders have relieved our team at The GreenLine of over 500 highly productive hours, allowing us to further improve our user experience and critical development. Our go-to WorkArounder, Oro Mahjoob, a transgendered refugee from Egypt, has helped with our social media engagement, monitoring, and content production. “(WorkAround) Basically saved my life, by giving me a chance to work and earn a living enough to pay my rent, with ONLY having an internet connection and a device. Using WorkAround’s simple online application process, Oro was accepted in a matter of hours and able to start working!

Oro is passionate about cooking, the planet, and social welfare; which made her a perfect member of our thriving community! [/vc_wp_text][vc_wp_text]Since working with WorkAround, Oro has managed to receive over  $1000 in fairly-earned funds, which provides a significant change in her living standard in Egypt. She has been able to use the money earned to cover her rent and fund her own startup food business.

Working with The Green Line market has inspired Oro to explore vegan lifestyle and she now is providing vegan recipes and food to her community, as well as trying to go vegan and zero waste!

For us, as a team, it has been humbling to know that the jobs we really need help with in sprints have been amazingly facilitated by Oro and WorkAround. This has all been while providing much more than we as her colleagues could hope for her life, after experiencing what few should ever have to.
